What is VISUAL?

INTRODUCTION

Visually Speaking

Today, people are more aware of design than ever before. Whether it's a critique of a new building, a TV ad or a hockey jersey, opinions abound and are expressed online, talk shows, periodicals. This is good. It reveals a desire to go beyond the surface. In these image conscious times, it's important to initiate and encourage dialogue that consideres more than the superficial, that looks at intent, process and execution. That's why we created this magazine.
VISUAL is here to nurture and showcase the most precious of human talents — the imagination.
VISUAL is a forum for exploring every kind of design and the creative process behind it. VISUAL celebrates the impact of design and artistic expression in day-to-day life. VISUAL delves into the creative process in all its limitless variety. In the print issues we examined the work and ideas of a car designer, a painter, a photographer, a fashion designer, a team of film animators, and more. Our aim is to find out what makes these people tick and to share what they do, so we can learn from them.

Over the years, I have attended a number of events dealing with visual media and inspirational talks. At all these gatherings — virtual or otherwise — creativity was the featured topic. Critical and creative thinkers, not only decision-makers, were the belles of the ball. The corporate world is increasingly aware of the value of creativity. It's not uncommon to find creative thinkers in senior positions at blue-chip companies, and leading business schools are teaching how to address organizational problems with creative thinking.
These are the times for creative people, and VISUAL is here to nurture and showcase the most precious of human talents — the imagination. VISUAL is your space. We hope you find it intriguing, maybe starling, but most of all inspiring.
